Bangkok Thailand, Day 2 - Food Log

Continuation of the previous post
Getting food is not an issue in BKK as there are a variety of choices and food stalls are common.
Right outside of the hotel, we can easily bumped into a few street peddlers selling fruits, finger food and local snacks...and along the walkway, it is common to see shops like these...
 selling big fat chickens! lolx
Anyway, we had our Day 2 lunch at Chatuchak market. It was a corner stall but crowded with tourists.
We had Thai Green Curry - it was superbly good and 'phenomenal'....the distinct taste that I could hardly get in M'sia, even in established Thai restaurant. Packed with spice and aromatic basil, the gravy was creamy and goes well with rice...
We also tried the minced pork basil rice...which has lotsa cili-padi!
pad-thai....not bad too...
food was excellent as we dun expect much from this tiny stall....Perhaps it is one of the hidden gem in Chatuchak which keeps the foreigners coming.
We then adjourned for the dessert at Coco JJ stall
and had our fav coconut ice-cream
it was a  hot and sunny day, hence got a bottled of orange juice (fake or not, I dunno!)
then we had more snacks, such as this grilled/bbq pork (moo ping)
the price is based on grams (min 100 gram)
we tried a piece at THB50. It taste like the Chinese bbq dried meat, but the texture is more like pork chop, meaty and succulent.
there are plenty of stalls selling fried stuffs too, but we did not try...
by evening we went to the Esplanade Mall at Ratchadaphisek for dinner.
Bought this mango sticky rice at one of the stalls behind this mall
then had our seafood spread
and stopped by Tops Market (a supermart) to buy more snacks.
While hanging around there, I saw this interesting Ad in KFC.
Yes, the egg tarts!!!
I took a wild guess on what was written there...
sort of 'Buy 3 free 1' for only THB66, which is a deal, considering that KFC egg tarts are quite nice!
so I went in to 'tapao' them for supper/breakfast-the-next-day
yea, it was sooooooo good (live up to its slogan!)
BON APPETIT!

Fast Food & Junk Food

Having a few 'drive thru' along my usual commute route is the most wonderful & convenient way to access to these fast food. But some times, I would just drop by and dine in, despite the convenience of the drive-thru.
My recent meal - the 'super jimat' meal (aka super saver meal) which consists of cheesy wedges, fries, a piece of fried chicken and a pepsi drink for only RM9.20
When I dun feel like eating 'super jimat', but still wanna go 'jimat', I had two bowls of 'loaded go bowl' which is in the 'Value Bowl' category. Each of these costs RM3.90 (meaning RM7.80 nett for two).
Kinda satisfying one but is full of carbs and fats~~~(feels so guilty now)
Meanwhile, on a different day, I tried the Prosperity Fish Burger set.
It was just....so-so. I'd preferred the beef more.
And sometimes when my mouth was 'itchy' (wanna munch on something), here's what I had:
Mamee!!!
Got myself a pack of super spicy as a comparison to the spicy (pedas) flavor.
The super spicy (in black noodles) is xx times the spiciness of the usual 'pedas' flavor as it can numb your tongue and make u 'cry' for 'at least' an hour...lolx
My trick in 'dealing' with this super spicy snack is to 'never drink water' while eating. Similar to some particular acid with water reaction, it gets worst when you drink water.

Fei Fei Crab @ Seri Kembangan

A few closed colleagues decided to have a 'lou sang' meal. We chose to dine in Fei Fei Crab @ Seri Kembangan on one fine evening.
The restaurant offered a set dinner menu which costs around RM888++ per table of 10 pax.
There were 9 of us, but we still proceed to have this set dinner.
Here's our dishes:
Fruit Sauce Salmon Yee Sang
 Fuzhou Fish Maw Soup
 Steamed Patin Fish
 Braised Fatt Choy Pork Knuckle
 Drunken Tiger Prawn
 Braised Mushroom with Brocolli
 Lotus Leaf Chinese Sausage Rice
 Musang King Durian Mochi
served together with Honey Sea Coconut Longan (sweet soup)
We did not managed to finish the Pork Knuckle, as there were still some meat left intact to the bones. A colleague 'tapao' them back for her dog.
It was a satisfying and filling dinner due to the 9 of us having 10 pax portion of food ;-)
The entire bill came up to RM1002.90, which is about RM111.43 per person.

Throwback: Cooling Day @ Genting Highlands

Went up the hill again during one of my 'clear leave' days (in December)
It was a cooling & foggy Friday noon...as seen in this picture took around 12pm
feels like in some sort of 4-seasons country
While everyone was still in the Christmassy mood back then, i saw the CNY bazaar entrance, which was guarded by a staff who wore a thick 'winter' jacket. Went in to look-see. It was newly set up on that day but already crowded with 'kiasu' shoppers who want to grab the first-hand CNY goodies.
Plenty of abalones, bird nests, chicken essence, cookies, snacks on sale...
The entire atmosphere felt like......CNY!
Meanwhile in the SkyAvenue mall, it was back to the Christmassy mood.
There were musical performances, and people flocking the concourse area to take pictures
The decoration for this year looks like hanging onions
since it was a cooling day, i got hungry pretty fast and had my lunch early.
Started with a warm pumpkin soup
 yummeehhh
 pork rib rice
 my colorful fusion set meal
i also tried a few spoonful of the seafood in Cantonese style gravy rice.
Later in the evening, I had Chocolate fudge cake for tea time before heading home. It was a birthday gift for members!

Bangkok Thailand, Day 2 - Grand Palace

Got 'lost' in some back alleys in Ratchathewi...while on our way to look for the braised pork leg rice...but anyhow I was fascinated by the window grills as they are colorful and hav various patterns...lolx!
We took the 'water taxi' (aka boat ride) to the Grand Palace.
It doesn't feel like a boat ride but more of like taking a bus with numerous stops along the Chao Phraya river. There was a conductor in the boat that signals to the 'driver' with their whistle language on when to stop/maneuver the boat. I have never seen this before as nowadays people use walkie talkie. Taking this ride is similar to taking public bus where passenger has to alert on when to alight. There are 30 plus piers along the river and the boat does not stop at every pier, u need to press the bell button for your next stop.
The boats are noisy and not the comfy type (imagine taking the non air-cond bus with smokes and diesel smell) and there are plenty of boats in the same river. Kinda polluted with noise and smokes.
After alighting from the pier, we walked for about 10 minutes before reaching the Palace. It was a sunny weather and the Grand Palace was crowded with tourists mainly from China.
The street along the palace was cordoned off...not sure if it is done only during weekends (?) due to massive visitors
inside the compound...
the golden pagoda
some other entrance
view from the outside
a mix of traditional and western-style buildings
it's good that they cordoned off the street, I got to have clear view of the palace without obstruction from buses/bigger vehicles
we didn't spend much time in there as it was hot....later we adjourned to the nearby area for sight-seeing
the Ministry of Defence building
the army guard....i pitied him for having to endure the hot weather under the thick layered uniform.
nearby tuk-tuk
nice view along this street...it feels like....'Macao' than 'Bangkok'...lolx
I tink these are government offices...
a very well-maintained garden
This area is a touristy spot, hence the police are on standby to guard the traffics
We left the place by noon and adjourned to Chatuchak for lunch and shopping.

Menya Abura

In Japan? Nah! Menya Abura has been around for more than a year in the neighborhood. This was my second visit. Ordering is done via kiosk, l...
