Crockfords Lounge

Back here for 'makan' after a year plus....Usually i dine at Good Luck Cafe (Ground floor), Pot Luck Cafe (1st floor) or Peace Cafe (2nd floor). There are other food court/restaurant that accept points too but gotta walk further into the shopping mall complex hence I rarely go. This lounge restaurant also known as 'FUHU Pop-up Dining' is accessible from the elevator in Crockfords Hotel and has a drinking bar that caters for the hotel's guest.
The lounge is usually quiet during the daytime. There is a mini stage at the corner with live band/performances on weekend/evening.
The restaurant is just right in front of this cosy area.
Upon placing order, dessert was served first😃
The main meal: Scallion beef stir-fry served with rice
The beef was tender, so it is easy to eat. Good that there are a few leafy greens choy sum. This beef dish has similar taste to Kam Kee Cafe's dry beef fried hor fun.
Menu is rotated every few days. I will definitely be ordering this again whenever i see it on the menu😋

Fried Rice.....no, not Uncle Roger

Lately, fried rice has become a hype....coz of the newly opened Fuiyoh restaurant by Uncle Roger...
then some other people went to compare it with Uncle Soon....
and the social media is all hyped up with fried rice reviews....
So, i might as well jump into the trend😂
nah, just kidding!
It just happened that i craved for fried rice (even before all the hype in social media)
Kawan Place
I went back to Kawan Place for their Kampung fried rice coz i like anchovies, chili and kangkung so much....
I also ordered a plate of fried potato wedges.
It was a weekend, was super hungry after done with some household chores....hence my OMAD is fully carb-loaded...
Total bill came to RM20.70nett
nothing to shout about, just an ordinary meal to fuel up energy and fill up my hungry stomach.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sun Thai
After done with Malaysian style fried rice...the next day, i went for Thai style fried rice....at Sun Thai restaurant.
 Pineapple fried rice😋
I have had pineapple fried rice numerous times in the past but never once served in a pineapple husk, so this is my first encounter of eating fried rice from a pineapple husk.
Decent portion of fried rice with prawns, squid, pineapple cubes and cashew nuts....
Tastes good, although abit pricey at RM20.75 nett....this price can get me a plate of fried rice at Uncle Roger's restaurant in Pavilion....hahaha😂
But then, Uncle Roger once said "if you can't afford a RM18 fried rice then your wallet is weak"
....haiyaa....
Malaysia Day - 16th September
What do you do during the long weekend?
Yours truly went 'hunting' for promotions....Lately it has been a norm to have national day promo....and this extended to Malaysia day too...not just F&B, but all sorts of businesses.
On national day:
Bought a shoe from Sketcher with RM67 discount (in commemoration with 67th Independence Day)
Bought 2 pieces of Uniqlo AIRism shirt with RM10 discount each
Had Coffee Bean iced blended mocha for RM6.70 each (usual price is RM14++)
Then on Malaysia day, I browsed thru the net and discovered both KFC and McD having promo on their fried chickens.
Decided for McD (coz KFC chicken is smaller in size and inconsistent)
There was a queue even at 8pm++ coz everyone went there for the fried chicken.
How cheap?
see it for yourself....
RM15+ for 5 pieces of fried chicken with a purchase of McValue meal.
So, I chose the cheapest McValue set coz I was only there for the fried chickens😁
Each piece was huge...big, juicy & crunchy like Texas chicken (but tastewise Texas chicken is better)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Unrelated to Malaysia day/national day, I recently discovered that Subway has wrap too...and salad, but with additional charges (from the usual sandwich price)
Anyway, the sub-of-the-day RM9.95 is really a good value for money. With add-on RM0.75, I got a wrap stuffed to the max, without worry of spillover, coz it is tightly wrapped. My favorite subs are Sunday, Monday and Tuesday (BBQ, Teriyaki, Roast chicken).
The cheapo me likes freebie, so i completed the online survey and got myself a free cookie....
Their macadamia nuts with white chocolate chips cookie is superb.
encountering a funny moment with the store manager....
Me: I would like to claim a free cookie (while handed over the receipt with validation code from the completed online survey)
Store Manager: *checked the system from my validation code then....
hmmm....i see that you have rated our outlet an average 6. May I know what's the issue?
Me: *puzzled...did I? heck knows i only simply entered a value, didn't even bother to read the questionnaire coz i just wanted a free cookie😂
Anyway, i managed to give a 'lame' feedback....Now gimme my cookie!😄
Next time, i must put at least a 7 so that i don't get questioned again, hahaha!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A new Japanese restaurant in Pinnacle mall has already opened.
Went to the uppermost floor from the escalator nearby Baskin Robbins to reach the entrance.
This picture was taken on last weekend where it was still undergoing some finishing touch.
It is Mitasu!
This is a well-established Japanese restaurant with outlets in Bukit Bintang and Old Klang Road.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Meanwhile, during the long weekend, i also had this....in Ah Muk Cha Chaan Teng.
Macaroni in tomato soup with spams and scrambled egg for RM16.40 nett.
It was near the closing hour, hence the staffs were clearing the pastries.....They have alot of leftovers, so they served me a free egg tart.
Yea....on the house....wooohooo!
The egg tart is a quality one with creamy egg custard and crunchy crust equivalent to Oriental Kopi standard (although the size smaller than Oriental Kopi's egg tart)
This definitely made my day😃

Chee Seong Restaurant, Sri Petaling

Back to Chee Seong for dinner with family.
We ordered:
Steamed tilapia in assam sauce.
Appetizing with spicy & sourish gravy.
Salted egg calamary....always my favorite!
Claypot tofu with assorted veggie.
Yam basket with chicken chunks.
All the dishes taste good, no doubt this restaurant has been in business for years and stood the test of time. It recently expanded its shop by opening another lot opposite the original premise to cater for more customers. That lot only has dining area and is without a kitchen, which mean the staffs deliver the dishes/food from the kitchen by crossing the road (from the original premise).

18 Grams, Sri Petaling

This is a newly opened cafe in the neighborhood, I guessed it started sometime July. Previously it was a dessert shop selling tongsui. This cafe is located a few doors away from the popular HoHo steamboat restaurant and opposite the new chapfan shop (Ho Chiak Mixed Rice). Despite that, it is still quiet (just like the previous tongsui shop), mostly because people don't notice it, as it is being overshadowed by the popular eateries nearby.
The menu board displayed outside the cafe. The font so small, the lazy me don't bother to read.
Then i saw this blackboard....aha....got 'free stuff' for main course order😁
The cheapo me clicks instantly....
I faster faster browsed thru the small fonts menu to see if any main course interests me...
OK, settled!
Went in for dinner.
The 'free soup with garlic French baguette' was served first....
OK, not bad....French baguette was crispy and the soup was served hot. Great combination.
Then the main course.....
Yes, pasta!
an ugly looking one....
hehe....usually the ugly looking food tastes good....
Indeed it was good....if you don't mind the basil herbs taste.
It has chunks of boneless chicken thigh meat...
The protein keeps me full....at least the pasta isn't entirely vegetarian.
I have had pesto pasta (many years ago) with stronger basil taste, so this one is consider mild, but i will definitely order this again as long as there is free soup😂
The bill came to RM15.40 which is reasonable.
This cafe also serves cakes and desserts such as tiramisu, cheesecakes and brownie, perhaps one day i should try them. Hopefully the business is able to sustain long enough until my next visit😅

Gom Gom Mini Hotpot, Sri Petaling

Discovered a newly hidden hotpot place in the neighborhood a few months back. It is located a few doors away from Luckee. This hotpot place adapts a similar concept like Two Pesos with all the ingredients fit into a mini pot and the customer do the cooking (DIY hotpot).
The only thing different is that this place is full of teddies accompanying you😂
The weekday promo pot starts from RM9.90 just for the pot with ingredients and soup. This is available the entire day.
Carbs such as rice and noodles are considered add-on, and will be charged. This gives an option for those not wanting to take carbs to omit the add-on, hence saving them a few bucks.
The free-flow sauces counter is located at the side. You can do your own version of mix & match sauces.
Here's my order - pork slices in salted veggie soup
they are using electric heater (instead of stove)
The salted veggie soup is very appetizing, can be flavorful for some, hence i need a bowl of white rice.
Free mantou given to those who liked their FB page. Limit to one set (3 pcs) per table.
This meal costs only RM12.85 nett
Value for money.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
On another day, I went there again during the evening for dinner. I tried the fish slices in herbal soup.
The herbal soup tastes subtle, almost like normal soup. I shall just stick to the salted veggie soup next time.
A pot full of ingredients. It has more ingredients compared to Two Pesos.
And more soup variety too, all for RM9.90
I will drop by again whenever I crave for mini hotpot.
Veggies World Cafe
During the pandemic lockdown, I used to order lui cha (thunder tea rice) from Simple Garden Cafe via Foodpanda. That's the only vegetarian restaurant in the neighborhood that I know of. Over the years, there are only a few places/stalls that serve lui cha, they come and go hence I don't have any fixed preference.
Recently I discovered another place that served lui cha, apart from Foloso.
This restaurant is quite hidden and located within the same row of automobile workshops and printing factories. It has been around for quite some time and is quite popular among the residents, seeing the crowds during the peak hours.
I didn't notice this place at first coz it looks dull from outside. Never did I know it serves lui cha and a variety of rice/noodles/dishes too.
The lui cha came in generous portion for RM12 nett.
I enjoyed crunching the freshly cut veggies and peanuts with thick 'tea' soup.
On another visit, I tried the vegetarian yinyong noodles. Taste OK despite the absence of prawns and fishcakes, just lacking some umami-ness. For dishes that contain egg such as this yinyong noodles, the staff would ask if the customer can consume egg and remark the chef.
[Below] Extensive menu of rice, noodles and Chinese dishes 'dai chow' style.
They even have yam basket, mock fish/seafood.
Price is reasonable too.
Despite having 'Daily Special', I prefer to order the items from their main menu as they are cheaper (RM9-12) and appealing compared to the 'Daily Special'.
[Below] Clean and comfortable dining environment. The staffs are mostly local Chinese and not immigrant workers. I can see the service and hygiene level is way better than the restaurants run by immigrant workers. I feel at ease to be served by local staffs, which is hardly seen in many restaurants these days (unless the person is boss/owner or business partners, boss/owner's relatives)
I saw one of the staffs attentively explained the items in the menu to the customer at the next table.
And during my last visit, I was being asked a few times (by different staffs) if someone has taken my order. Yea, they are using the conventional ordering system, no QR code or order chit.
Choo Choo Chicken
This was my second visit to Choo Choo Chicken after they moved to a new location (which is still within the neighborhood). As usual it was empty and quiet, such a contrast compared to when it was newly launched (some 8-9 years ago i think).
Wasn't sure what to eat, so ended up with this.
Fried chicken tenders in soy garlic flavor, potato wedges and beef bulgogi seaweed kimchi rice.
This set is meant for sharing 2-3 pax.
The chicken tenders taste weird, which i guess is due to the oil. It smells like those oil used in Indian prayer.
Nevertheless, managed to finish the food in separate days but vow to never buy this again.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sometime in March, I tried out nasi ganja in Nam Heong. I have never eaten nasi ganja before so just order this, out of curiosity.
Nasi ganja was made famous during the pandemic lockdown when someone sent a helicopter from KL to pick up nasi ganja in Ipoh (from a famous nasi ganja shop, definitely not Nam Heong). With such special delivery...I thought nasi ganja must be superbly delicious.
Anyway, this nasi ganja (loosely translated as marijuana rice), has nothing to do with marijuana.
It is mainly rice with curry gravy, cucumber, boiled egg, okra, a piece of fried chicken and sambal chicken gizzard. This is Nam Heong version. Other shops might have slightly different dishes, such as curry beef or rendang etc.
Personally, I think it's just a toned down nasi kandar....I still prefer the Penang nasi kandar with mixed curry gravy (kuah campur), with strong kicks of spices.
This plate of nasi ganja costs RM20.90 nett.

Ho Jiak Mixed Rice

A new mixed rice shop opened in the neighborhood, providing more option for the nearby residents to tapao or dine-in 'economically'. It is operated from 9:30am till 9pm daily. Variety of dishes, similar to '126 Mixed Rice' shop that is located nearby. I guess the business in the existing nearby mixed rice shops are affected following this new rival, as I see this place is getting more businesses during peak hours. The dishes are quite standard like any other stalls, tastewise OK, price is slightly lower than 126.
There is free flow soup and Chinese tea provided at the side counter, similar to 126. They even provide plastic bags to those who want to tapao.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
[Below] Yam cake bought from pasar malam, 3 pieces for RM5. Stir-fried chai poh are packed together with the yam cake. Sambal and sweet sauce are provided in separate packets. I usually eat them plain without sauce, although it is nice to eat with all the sauces mixed too.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tried out lunch set in Mami Porridge. Been to this place in 2019, that was 5 years ago...
As I wasn't keen on eating porridge, i tried out something else...
Bolognaise spaghetti😂
this item is so out of place! lol!
but then again, it's not really out-of-place entirely coz the minced pork that is used to cook porridge is used in this spaghetti....just apply a difference sauce😀
This set lunch came with barley drink.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
[Below] Beautiful view on top of the hill
Captured during the sunset...
so calm and serene....
 A total contrast with bustling activities inside the building😂
Yea, there is no day or night inside the casino as it is operating on 24 hours basis.
I went there to gamble buy mooncakes...coz it is mid-autumn festival soon. So far, only Wing Wah (HK) and Genting brand are considered the quality ones. Others are too sweet and kinda crappy.
Also went to the SkyAvenue rooftop to enjoy the view, only to realize that the place was cordoned off for repair works due to the fire incident in June. This area is just a few steps away from 'Beauty in the Pot' restaurant.
I couldn't imagine those diners in the nearby hotpot restaurant would react when seeing the fire broke out while having their meal halfway.
Deepavali Decoratives at the Hotel Lobby
Due to multiple delays, the flight departs quite late, around 10pm plus. When I reached the Langkawi airport, it was already 11pm, but fret ...
