Korean Food for a Day

It has been ages since i last had japchae......
So, on one fine evening, I went to 'once-my-favorite-Korean-restaurant' and ordered a japchae set.
It came with 7 banchans (refillable) and a seaweed soup (non-refillable).
The restaurant is getting stingy by serving tiny portion of banchans....
This explains why my favorite Korean restaurant is no longer my fav these days.
Although it is refillable, I would feel paiseh if keep on getting the staff to refill😂
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After done with this Korean japchae meal, my itchy mouth still wanting to munch on something. So, i went to CU mart to look see if any snack i could buy.
Decided to buy a corndog which is a hotdog on stick with deep-fried thick coating of cornmeal batter.
It was nicely packed in a box.
I forgot to mention without sauce, so the staff has squeezed some cheese and spicy sauce on it (by default). The deep-fried batter is oily, so I must remind myself not to buy this unhealthy food again.
BBQ Barn for my final dinner in Barbados
I'm still clearing out some of the pictures from my backlog....so, apologies if you are seeing old posts/pictures again.
Yes, these pictures are 9-10 months old now, but anyway, just posting them for 'archive' purpose.
During the final evening in the office, me & colleague decided what to have for our final dinner.
We came to agreement to tapao BBQ Barn coz we liked the food so much during our 'dine-in' previously.
We left the office on time and requested the driver to chauffeur us there.
It usually takes 15-20 minutes for the restaurant to prepare the food. Our driver, Mr. Emerson was kind enough to wait for us in the car. We offer to buy him dinner too, but he declined.
He is a nice middle-aged man, cares for everyone and has a loving wife. Throughout our stay, he provided a great service, willingly to chauffeur us around and patiently waited for us whenever we requested to go somewhere to tapao breakfast/dinner elsewhere.
God bless him.
Back to the restaurant....here's my favorite bar...the salad & soup bar. It reminiscence of the salad/soup bar that Pizza Hut used to have back in the 90s.
[Below] Extensive freshly cut veggies, condiments, and dressings.
 Nowadays, only hotel buffets have such have salad/soup bar.
It has beans, chickpeas...and fruits too
Coleslaw, lettuces
The ordering counter...very old school...I mean there's no kiosk or online QR code, everything is done through the counter.
Here's my takeaway box. I had pork rib, onion rings and mashed potato. The quality is similar to Morganfield's.
Yummylicious!😋
I wish they would open a franchise here...hahaha!
Family Dinner at Mun Kee @ Happy Garden
Mun Kee restaurant has been the family favorite 'dai chow' place since we tried this place several years ago. It is also popular among the neighborhood (and nearby) due to the queue on weekends. Nevertheless, they have a queue system, and staffs are efficient. Service is quick and foods are served promptly. We usually order 5 dishes (for 5 pax) coz we like their dishes so much.
Here's our usual order:
#1 Sweet and sour pork.
#2 Tofu with minced pork.
#3 Fuyong omelet - it has shrimps and Chinese wax sausage (lapcheong) in it.
#4 Stir fried spinach.
4 dishes...before the fish head is served
#5 and finally the star of the day - Steamed fish head with black beans.
The fish head is their specialty, it was fresh with tender meat.
That's our hearty weekend dinner, once or twice in a month😃
Hai Kah Lang @ Sri Petaling
Tried this Michelin-approved seafood noodles restaurant...
This place is usually crowded during weekend and lunch/dinner hours.
The menu is extensive from prawns to clams and fish noodles....and there are several types of fishes to choose from.
It is so extensive that the fonts in the menu are super tiny in order to fit into a cardboard size menu😂
I need to enlarge the font using my phone camera to read....but still it was blur (due to pixel resolution, not because of long sightedness)
seriously how do they expect the elderly or middle-age people to read the tiny fonts?
anyway, i simply 'tembak' one coz the fonts are hurting my eyes....lazy to read them....
It was weekday lunch hour and there was crowd, but I managed to secure a seat inside the restaurant. They have alfresco dining, but definitely not for me under the hot afternoon sun.
I sat facing the Chinese wine jars😀
I had grouper fish noodle...the broth is whitish coz i requested to add milk. I also requested for Chinese wine.
The boneless deep-fried fish is served in a separate bowl.
The broth is flavorful and thick. Slightly sourish (like sour veggie soup) which is appetizing. Pleasant taste that kept me drinking. Overall, the noodle was good but not superb....perhaps my expectation abit bias coz it is Michelin-approved😎
Went to pay at the counter and saw these 'posters'....so, it is for 2 consecutive years only...
The bill came to RM24.25 nett after service charges and tax.
Little Wonders @ Sri Petaling
This shop is located nearby Ding Xiang Sang Nyuk Noodles in the neighborhood commercial area. It is on the first floor hence not many people notice it unless they saw the signboard nearby the staircase.
The interior is quite spacious and therefore it can accommodate large groups....
Overall, the place is clean and neat.
Quiet day....
I went there to tapao my dinner....
I had Taiwanese lu rou fan (minced pork rice)
It has pickled cucumber, a piece of tofu, a braised egg and lotsa minced pork on top of the rice.
It was just OK, probably because I ate it only a few hours later. So, the food has turned cold.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I gave it a second try a few weeks later....
This time i opted for dine-in.
It was served on a tray like this.....such a nice setting.
This time I had it right after served, hence it tastes better (when eaten fresh and warm).
each table has these decorative dried flowers on a bottle vase (see background)
I also tried their soy bean milk....which was just so-so.....It was diluted and has only slight soy bean taste.
The bill came to RM18.80 nett.
The lu rou fan is worth trying....
Portion is OK for RM13.90nett

Hong Fu Lou Dim Sum

This dim sum place opens from morning 7am till 10pm daily.
yea, it caters for night owls like me who crave for dim sum at night😁
So, one evening (or late evening), i went there for my 'dinner/supper'
I had shrimp cheung fun. There are 3 pieces of shrimps wrapped in the thin rice noodle rolls. Springy and fresh. The rice noodle rolls are basically tasteless, they are just for the texture...what makes it flavorful is the sauce. The soy sauce tastes like those used in steamed fish. Will definitely order this again. Sambal is provided separately.
Next is the fried radish cake. My all-time-favorite.
The crunchy beansprout goes well with the fried egg and radish cake with some wok-hei. It was tad oily but way better than fried radish cake sold in pasar malam.
My full carb platters😂
I also ordered siu mai....a must have item when eating at dim sum shop!
Pork siu mai tastes good too....
Overall, a satisfying meal. Well, a dim sum shop can't go wrong with these items.
Total bill came to RM27.25 nett after service charges and tax.
Will be back to try out more items.

Flight Meals - British Airways and MAS

Photo taken during departure from Bridgetown. Their airport doesn't have an airbridge that connects to the plane's entrance. So, we boarded the plane the old fashion way - using the staircase😀
Flight meal - British Airways
Fish, mashed potatoes...some overcooked broccoli and carrots...can't remember how it tastes like....just like any standard airline meal....The other desserts and salad was just so-so only....which explains why it does not leave any impression....Totally forgot how it tastes like😂
Mid-flight tea-time....
yes....it is a wrap with egg and chicken fillings. Tastes bland!
Flight meal - MAS airline
They served peanuts as 'starter'....my favorite!
Then the meal....few hours later....
I had fish again....the other option is chicken, but since I had too much chicken in Barbados, i opted for fish during both flights.
2 hours before reaching KL, breakfast was served....I wouldn't want to miss out MAS airline nasi lemak....they are superb! The nasi lemak is served with rendang chicken, boneless thigh meat😋
KL - London - Bridgetown (and vice versa) is one of the priciest return flight I've ever been....RM20k++ just for economical class tickets.
The project manager kept complaining of the pricey tickets despite him paying using the company credit card and billed in Pounds. That's the price to pay when purchasing the ticket last minute.

Deepavali Decoratives at the Hotel Lobby

Due to multiple delays, the flight departs quite late, around 10pm plus. When I reached the Langkawi airport, it was already 11pm, but fret ...
