Mid-Autumn Lanterns

*this is an outdated post
Mid Autumn nite is the day where we showcased our 'antique' lanterns.
These conventional paper type lanterns have been kept for years....while the older ones got burned.
Sis has the practice of keeping this 'tradition' alive...despite in her 30's
she is now a 'pro' in litting the paper lanterns without accidently burning them...
for the past years we had one or two lanterns damaged each year...but lately we managed to keep them in good shape.
see how colourful they are!
these are the 'survivors' from our 'treasures'!

  1. Your sister is really good at keeping traditions alive. I remember celebrating when young but not anymore now. It was fun to light up all these colourful tam tong lanterns.

  5. When we were playing these lanterns, we would always "accidentally" burn off most of them to ensure we get new lanterns every year. :D :D

  6. Haha! Me too actually! I love keeping the tradition alive, I'll play with lanterns every Mid Autumn too.

My real passion is for fireworks and firecrackers every Chinese New Year though - that one is something I'm really into, have been for 35 years and counting. :D

  7. RealGunners: 'accidentally' burn off the lanterns?! we instead handled 'them' with care....coz once burned, that's it! we are not going to buy a new one. It has been more than a decade since we last bought our lanterns.

Huai Bin: fireworks and firecrackers scare me to hell...it gave me heart attacks especially those that explode 'loud' & out of sudden.
