Collection (Part II) - Stamps

When was the last time u seen a stamp on an envelope?

With the invention of electronic mails, physical mails or known as letters are no longer in sight...ok, perhaps still in used but many of the informal mails hav been taken over by electronic mails.

Thus, most of the letters i got nowadays are the formal ones from banks/some institutions, and they are mainly post-paid without stamp on its envelope. I guess the last time i seen one was about 2 years ago!
Thank God dad still keeps some of his stamp albums. His collection are HUGE! and i hav no idea on where it came from..

This sort of part time interest is almost extinct now.

From my personal view, collecting stamps is rather taxing.

Firstly u need to be very sociable by having contacts globally in order to exchange letters and stamps.

Secondly, doing physical mailing needs load tonnes of envelopes, papers and other writing materials, besides paying for the stamp itself.

Thirdly, u need to get a stamp album, and they ain't cheap, coz stamp albums are made of cardboard.

And last but not least, u need to hav lotsa patience to neatly arrange them into tht silly album!

Despite that, the older generations doesn't mind doin it! Coz it gave them some satisfaction when viewing back their collections that have been neatly arranged with personal touch!

Stamps from other countries

Local stamps. Colorful, isn't it?

Collection (Part I) - School Badges

School badges - something tht brings back lotsa nostalgic schooldays memories...

Do u still keep them?

Well, i don't.

But i found these from a shelf at home and most of them dated back to some 30 years ago.

Looking rather rusty and more like junks, these metal badges have been well-kept for decades, except tht we dun polish them!

Metal school badges are hardly found nowadays as most schools have switched to using cloth badge during late 90s. Cloth badge which is sewn on the school uniform, is used as a way to curb displinary issues as it ease the public/school authorities to identify students who 'ponteng' and loiters during school hours.

Well, i personally prefers the metal badge coz it looks good when worn on uniforms...shinny, classy and easily taken out (so tht u won't b easily identified when creating some nuisance outside the school!). Besides, it is also economical as students can rotate it on all their uniforms instead of having a few for each of their uniforms.

During my 13 years of schooling (including 2 years pre-U), i only hav one metal school badge, and the rest were cloth badges.

Rainy Day & Ice-Cream

The weather is cold today...and i hav been sneezing more frequent than usual...
arrr...choooooo!!!! *sneeze sneeze
Despite tht, we tot of having some ice-cream...thus, sis went to the nearby hypermart to get one.
2 hours later, she brought back a tube of ice-cream. Nothing can beat the satisfaction of havin' ice-cream during rainy/cold day....shioknya!
It's Choc Choc Chip flavour. Very chocolatey. Can u guess how much does it costs?
As told by sis, here is a scenario when she went to pay for the ice-cream:
Cashier : (scanned the barcode, then eyes popping out...can't believe...she scanned for another time..)
Sis : (Looking at her in one kind). Anything wrong?
Cashier : Yang ini (pointing at the ice-cream) harganya $28.89???
Sis : ya..ya..
Cashier : ok (disbelief)...keciknya..(then she talked with a guard standing nearby) ni aiskrim kecik tapi harga 28 lebih!
That guard also 'kepoh'...he peeped into the plastic bag and said "keciknya"...(with another disbelief look)
Sis : ??? (amazed)
I guess these people never hav Haagen-Dazs before...there was no mistake in the barcode and indeed that is the usual market price for a small tube of Haagen-Dazs ice-cream. Anyway, v dun always buy these kinda ice-cream...i ain't a spendthrift!

Toong Fong Bus Tickets

Saw these when sis clear up her shelves...colorful bus tickets!
It brought back lotsa nostalgic memories..
Well, this bus company no longer operate in KL city, coz most of their areas hav been covered by rapidKL (formerly intrakota)...and thus, these tickets are considered 'antiques' now...imagine a bus fare tht cost just 30 cent??!!! tht was about 13 years ago..u will never find any route tht cost tht cheap anymore...(unless u use an RM1 rapidKL ticket and travel non-stop within a day!)

Fillet v6 - The Fighting Fish

Apart from the virtual adopted pet fish, I do hav a real pet fish, her name is Fillet v6. She is a fighting fish (Betta splendens), a very petite fish with blue tail and maroon fin but is very aggressive and eager to fight (even with her own self image!)

Fighting fish is one of the easiest rear fish, but their life span are not long (2-5 years old). They can easily pass out due to toxic water. Thus, fish need frequent water changes to rid the water of fatal ammonia build-up.
Despite that, 5 of them already dead, and Fillet v6 is our 6th pet fish! (which explained why she is named as v6).

A brief biography of her:

Name: Fillet v6
Age: 1 year old (estimated)
Color: Dark blue and Maroon
Size: 2.5 inches
Fav food: Tiny prawn slices (btw, she has a very good appetite, and can't control her eatings...)
Hobbies: Fight, sleep and eat
Motto: "Fight like there is no tomorrow!"
Behavior: Aggressive but high spirited...

Well, Fillet is damn fierce, and i'm extremely scare of her, coz the moment i put my finger on the water surface, she will immediately rose frm bottom and bite my finger real HARD! ouchhhh!!!!

mein Frühstück

Today is still a public holiday…WOOHOOO!!!!
To spice things up, sis prepared a special breakfast for us – Toasted Garlic Bread & Celery Cream Soup…yummylicious!
Easy steps to prepare Garlic Bread:

Well, the garlic bread doesn’t follow the actual recipe, just a simulation of it.
We took some Gardenia breads, spread them with butter and chopped garlic (coz we dun hav garlic butter). Then, put it into toaster to heat. After about 3 minutes…..TINGGG!!! ready to makan! Easy rite??? It tasted just like the real ones…

Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri to all the Muslims

Unlike previous years, i dun go to any minister's open house on this year. Still on-duty for this whole week...sigh..sigh.....Anyway, quite happy coz my 'good neighbor' gave us a box of egg tarts! I'm wondering if this is raya tarts or wut??!!! coz they are not celebrating this festival as well.

Me and my family didn't go anywhere on this very special day...though my mind is tinking with so much ideas of goin to this-and-that open houses. But it would be troublesome in case there are calls for me (on duty ler!)...i will be searching frantically for a wifi spot, perhaps a serene place to do my work, and of course sufficient power supply in case my laptop's battery runs dry.

Sis had tot of one good idea IF we are to visit the istana (palace). In case i really i got some calls, jst borrow their power supply la...

I hav been imagining someting like tis:

Me : Ampun tuanku beribu-ribu ampun, boleh patik pinjam letrik???
King (YDPA) : ?????
Me : Patik tengah kerja hari ini, takde power supply...
King (YDPA) : boleh! boleh! beta sungguh bertuah kerana ada rakyat jelata yang begitu rajin!

CRAPs!
Anyway, sis had bought our fav Nini coklat (long time fav since kid!) to be enjoyed while watching some raya shows later.....(Ok, it isn't chocolates, we prefer the peanut butter flavor...)

till then, HAPPY RAYA to all the MUSLIMs!

Wedding Invitations

Nowadays, i used to get quite a number of wedding invitations, mostly from relatives, colleagues and for some instances, former classmates (some do wed early, u noe!). It is at its peak especially during the end of the year when kids are on school holidays.
If you (or your relatives) are the typical chinese, mostly you'l get the red or pink cards...with fragrance smell and a chinese character which shows 'happiness' (or perhaps something synonym).
Meanwhile, if the banquet is hosted by the typical malaysians, mostly you will never escape the delay of the banquet. Although it is stated as 7pm sharp in the invitation card, i can assure you that 99.9% (more accurate than DNA test) it will start at 8pm or later.
Ever wonder the reason?
This is Malaysian 'style' (not Malaysian IDOL!).
When i was a kid, i used to be impatient by kept asking mum when will the banquet start...(*and cursing the host for taking so long to get ready!) until recently, when i was helping out at one of my cousin's wedding, i finally found out the truth...
Well, in her case, both of the families prefered to start the banquet once all the invitees arrived, not even a single one is missed. So, if you are one of the invitees, better be 'smart' and dun be late. If you can't make it, it's always a courtesy to inform the host rather than letting them (and all the invitees) waiting just for you ;-)

Jokes of the Day

JOKE 1

Lady: Is this my train?

Station Master : No, it belongs to the Railway Company.

Lady: Don't try to be funny. I mean to ask if I can take this train to New Delhi.

Station Master : No Madam, I'm afraid it's too heavy.

JOKE 2

A drunkard was brought to court. Just before the trial there was a commotion in the gallery. The judge pounded the gravel on his table and shouted, "Order, order."

The drunkard immediately responded, "Thank you, your honor, I'll have a scotch and soda."

The Many Looks of Sammi Cheng

Well, I'm not a great fan of Sammi Cheng, but I think her fashion sense is quite stylish...from head to toe.
Perhaps she is one of the most versatile Asian artiste ever. Her styles range from urban fashion to sexy, feminine, cute, cool to *whatever you could named it. It definately took alot of effort to change someone who looks like a plain Jane to a gorgeous lady!
Okie, I'm not doin some sort of fashion survey over here...Just blogging about it for fun. Btw, for Sammi fans out there, she will be having a concert on next Saturday (13 October 2007) in Singapore. *but i guess tickets are all sold out liao...

So, this bird walks into a store....

A seagull in Scotland has developed the habit of stealing chips from a neighborhood shop.
The seagull waits until the shopkeeper isn't looking, and then walks into the store and grabs a snack-size bag of cheese Doritos.
Once outside, the bag gets ripped open and shared by other birds.
The seagull's shoplifting started early this month when he first swooped into the store in Aberdeen, Scotland, and helped himself to a bag of chips. Since then, he's become a regular. He always takes the same type of chips.
Customers have begun paying for the seagull's stolen bags of chips because they think it's so funny.

Pavilion KL

Was on leave today and purposely went for sight seeing at Pavilion KL.

Well, nothing much to blog about the mall since it is quite new and some of its shops are still under construction. Perhaps i shall talk about an 'incident' on my way to Pavilion.

I was about to cross a busy road in front of tht mall when suddenly I noticed a very stunning, beautiful lady dressed like a model jst right in front of me. Dressed in blue satin dress matched with a pair of shiny stilettos, she was at the centre of attention on a busy street. Well, at first glance she looks like someone attending a banquet, but then again, judging frm her height and her fashionable appearance, she might be some rising celebrities.

We (me and my parents) were trying to cross the busy road, but seemed to no avail. There were no traffic lights and the vehicles never stop even when there r people trying to cross at zebra crossing. Miraculously, once this stunning lady stepped her feet out, all the vehicles jst stopped and let her cross...and i quickly followed behind..

DAMN!

Anyway, i trailed her and realised tht she is one of the invited guests for a launching of a jewellery shop...and there were alot of these stunning ladies in that shop...how i wish to be one of them!
